DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES

Under the direction of the Director, Deputy Director or Bureau Chief within the Bureau of Fire Code Enforcement, Division of Fire Safety, DCA, reviews, analyzes and interprets provisions of model national and international fire codes, and proposed code revisions; assesses the applicability of those provisions and proposals to meet the purpose of the Uniform Fire Safety Act and Regulations to protect the lives and property of the occupants of buildings and premises, firefighters and the general public; does related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, which includes or is supplemented by twenty- one (21) semester hours credits in Fire Science, Fire Engineering or other fire-related area. Five (5) years of experience in a fire code enforcing agency, the primary responsibility of which must have included the enforcement of a fire code that included both maintenance and retrofit requirements. NOTE: Individuals who do not possess the required degree but have the required twenty-one (21) semester hour credits, may substitute additional fire code enforcement experience on year- for-year basis. CERTIFICATION Applicant will be required to possess a valid Fire Official Certification issued by the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety, Department of Community Affairs.

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
